Question:

New to me- Dutch ingredients?

My aunt bought me Ketjap Manis and some Nasi Goreng to use in cooking, she got it from a Dutch specialty store. I'm excited to use it but only know the basics of what it is...kind of... anyways, anyone got any ideas/experience with this stuff?

Desi Chef is right, I have used Ketjap in my chef career and made Nasi Goreng, and worked with the hot pepper paste Sambal Olek, Indonesia was part of the Dutch East Indies until the mid 19th century and they imported the foods along with slaves to Holland for servile work, so the food came with them, now in most Asian store they carry the same things.

    I like the Ketjap Manis for marinating or even in a teriyaki sauce.


  2. These are actually Indonesian ingredients.  Ketjap Manis is basically an Indonesian soy sauce but thicker, use it as condiment or even a marinade or basting sauce.  It tastes especially good with grilled foods.

    Nasi Goreng is Indonesian fried rice.  You can add your favorites veggies or some quickly stir fried chicken (with ketjap manis).
