Question:

New to photogrraphy already have canon 50mm 1.8... would you suggest 28-135 or 70-300 as next lens?

  1. Well, it depends what you like shooting.

    Do you have any other lenses besides the 50mm f/1.8? If not, i would go with the 28-135. That's a much more useful range. The average person is taking pictures of other people most of the time, and taking anything besides close-ups is hard with a telephoto.

    If you DO like just close-ups and wildlife, though, go with the 70-300. Honestly, though, you are going to use the 28-135 a LOT more than the 70-300.


  2. I have both the 28-135 and the 70-300 lenses, and like both very much.  As to what lens you want to buy next, you need to think about what subjects you plan on shooting.  

    The 28-135 is a great walk around lens, good for landscapes and portraits.  This lens is the one I use the most, it is rarely off my camera.

    The 70-300 is also a very good lens, it's good for wildlife and portraits, and good for sports in bright light (I'd not advise using it for night sports or indoor sports, it's a bit too slow for that)...
