hi im new to the golf community and i really just need to know the basic like what are the irons used for what irons or clubs i can use in different scenarios what the difference between a 2-3-4-5-6-6-7-8-9 iron you know the basics tyvm

  1. the higher the iron the shorter the ball will go u can also use ur nine iron in the sand and for short chips...if ur in the rough i suggest u use a lower number like a five through a 9


  2. If you're really that new, I suggest you call your local course and ask if there are any beginners group lessons. Most full service courses offer such. They're invaluable for getting you started on the basics. Later, as you get more proficient, you should take a few starter individual lessons.

    The important thing is to start right and develop good habits. Once ingrained, bad habits are nearly impossible to erase.

  3. Golfblog is right on. Get help from a local professional. It easier to get started right than correcting bad habits later

  4. try some free lessons first before you proceed. If you have some extra cash take some private lessons.

  5. Golf is a game of opposites. If you want to get it in the air, you hit down on the ball. If you want to curve it left, you strike it going right. If you want to hit it far, you swing with less tension.

    Bottom line, the answer above is very good, get lessons. I've been playing 7 years and am finally starting to get it right.
