Question:

New toilet flushes differently each time?

Sometimes it flushes normally, sometimes you have to hold the handle down to get the bowl to fully empty, and often the water just swirls around and stays in the bowl. It's a new low-flow toilet, I had 2 put in at the same time (2 different installers, 1 upstairs, 1 down). Someone from the company came back and checked the upstairs one and said it was low water pressure.

I've tried shortening the chain inside the tank, nothing changes this. Any ideas? thanks a lot for any advice!

  1. No such thing as low pressure causing a toilet not to flush. The water is stored in the tank and when you push the handle, it is released into the bowl. No pressure, except gravity, is involved. It could be that the installer didn't set the toilet directly on the wax seal and it squeezed into the discharge hole, slowing the flow of water and waste to be discharged. One thing to look for this condition is if the water level in the bowl rises before it starts leaving the bowl. This indicates a blockage.

  2. first i'd check the working insides of both toilets.  make sure the water level is always the same on each flush on both toilets for comparison.

if you have to hold down the lever, it tells me the water level in the tank is too low which makes sense why the flush is so weak.  you may have a slight leak at the flapper even if it's a new toilet.

if you're lucky, it'll be a simple "adjustment".
