New truce allows five Indian hockey players to rejoin training-camp – Hockey News
In the first positive sign of the provisional agreement between Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Hockey India (HI), the five players who were not allowed to get training in the national camp, have been allowed to join the practice session on conditions.
It is worth mentioning here that five players from the Indian hockey team including Sandeep Singh, Sardara Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Adrian D’Souza and Arjun Halappa were stopped to join the camp, as they had missed it in order to participate in the launching
ceremony of money-spinning World Series Hockey (WSH). Pargat Singh – Chief of the Disciplinary Committee submitted an inquiry report before HI and recommended ban on these players over the violation.
It is one of the major steps taken by the both organisations to resolve the differences and moved on towards the same goal. The decisions, which will be a sign of relief for the aforementioned players, will definitely leave positive impacts on the players
as well the team.
After the settlement between the two feuding federations, the Indian Hockey Federation compelled Hockey India to backpedal on their decision regarding stern action against those players who attended the promotional event of WSH. The WSH is the well-paid
annual hockey league which is a combined project of Nimbus Sports and Indian Hockey Federation.
Hockey India though served show cause notices to the players seeking explanations of their violation, but they allowed them to attend the training session. The authorities sought a reply for skipping the ongoing-camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI)
in Bangalore.
It was written in the show-cause notice that this act was a severe discipline violation therefore the players should submit their replies by August 02, 2011 with logical reasons for leaving the camp. It further stated, “If no reply is received from you before
the last date, it shall be deemed that you have no answer and the Disciplinary Committee shall be free to make its recommendations to president, Hockey India. In the meantime, you are granted provisional permission to participate in the ongoing camp till July
31 subject to no violations during this period.”
On the other hand, Indian custodian namely Adrian D’Souza was asked why he had missed the Pune Camp back in 2010. Additionally, Sandeep Singh and Sardar Singh were also questioned for their second attempt, as they skipped the national camp ahead of Azlan
Shah Hockey Cup to take part in the Dutch league. They had apologised for their offences but practiced similar action.
An official of the team stated that they would be permitted back into the camp but with conditions. He, however, stated that whatever their explanation would be, it was a clear violation of rules.
