i have tried tofu a number of different ways with absolutly no luck.

  1. Go to the library, look at the cookbooks.

Cooking is a skill.  It takes practise, experimentation, discovery, etc. Keep on going, you'll get there.

  2. Experiment with a variety of whole grains and grain-like seeds including brown rice, whole wheat, oats, corn, rye, millet, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, and barley. Combine them with a variety of legumes (beans, peas, lentils, soyfoods, peanuts), and serve with plenty of vegetables on the side. Try many different types of herbs and spices. The options are virtually limitless.

  3. Also remember that tofu is bland by itself.  It will take on the flavor of whatever you cook it with.  I use it all the time as a Ricotta substitute by mixing it with basil and an egg substitute such as: Ener-G Egg Replacer  or

    2 tbsp corn starch = 1 egg

    2 tbsp arrowroot flour = 1 egg

    2 tbsp potato starch = 1 egg

    1 heaping tbsp soy powder + 2 tbsp water = 1 egg

    1 tbsp soy milk powder + 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water = 1 egg.

    Vegweb has some good recipes.

my favorite vegan recipe book is "How It All Vegan" by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer

  4. There are a lot of websites you could check out. If you live in a rural area, it might be harder to find vegan stuff at local stores and restaurants. These might be helpful:

As long as you aren't buying the prepared foods like Boca Burgers, it is actually cheaper to eat vegan usually.

Buddy, that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I hope you're joking and don't really believe that.

  5. Go to the library and check out "Veganomicon" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.  Skip the tofu recipes if you're not a fan.  If you're willing to cook, you can't possibly be bored.

  6. Since you're on a limited budget you probably won't want to go out and buy any vegan cookbooks, so here is one my favorite sites for ideas!

  7. I was a vegetarian for 5+years and could never get rid of the craving for sirloin steaks and beef burgers so I relented. Now I only eat animals that are range bred and eat grass namely cows. If they are vegetarians and I eat them then I must still be a sort of vegetarian. Technically all I am eating is grass!!

  8. Use the tool you are sitting in front of-there are many vegan websites. It also helps if you have an open mind to trying new things.

You don't need to like tofu to be vegan. My favorite tofu recipe is tofu scramble:

1 box Mori-Nu tofu, patted dry and mashed

    1/8 tsp. turmeric

    1 tsp. onion powder

    1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 cup or more of your favourite vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, fresh mushrooms, onions, or tomatoes

Place the tofu in a lightly oiled sauté pan and cook over medium heat for 3 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, stir well, and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, until the vegetables are cooked and the tofu is heated through.

    I hope this helps!
