Question:

New vegan looking for good recipes...?

Recently I came across a pamphlet that revealed to me the atrocities of the meat packing industry. Soon after, I became vegetarian. However, as I continue to learn more about the animals that get slaughtered in the most inhumane way, I want to get away from eating all animal products like eggs and dairy. If you yourself wouldn't torture innocent animals, then why would you pay someone else to, right? Anyways, my parents aren't exactly supportive of this choice so I am trying to gather some good vegan foods I would be able to make on my own / some good food to stock the kitchen with. I'm not exactly the best cook, but I figure its worth the try.

Also, what are some foods to stay away from. For example, today I was going to have penutbutter and fluff sandwich until I realized fluff has egg whites in it. What are some other foods that have eggs in it that you wouldn't usually think of?

Thanks!

  3. Mayonnaise has eggs, so stay away from that. Just read the ingredients on the back of the food container and you should be fine. Something you should watch out for is casein---it comes from milk, but is in a lot of foods that are "cheese alternatives." A really excellent book you should get is Vegan With A Vengeance. It has wonderful recipes that even omnivores like.
