New video camera 10 pts best answer on software?

Question

i just got a new video camera and i want to do some cool stuff with it. what is the best editing software. for things like making a light saber look real or things like a bullets ( not real editing in) come out of a gun. thank you

If you're looking to do "bullet time" effects like The Matrix, I don't know how it can be done on an amateur budget.  For light sabers, muzzle flashes etc I'd have a look at Particle Illusions SE.  It's an effects package though, not a complete editor.  My personal favourite is Sony's Vegas Movie Studio.  You need to get comfortable with editing before you start getting into special effects though - regardless of what it says in the adverts, it does take some practice.
