New video from Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull car reveals the green flag – Formula 1 news
A new video captured from the in car camera of Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull has revealed the green flag under which the driver overtook Toro Rosso’s Jean Eric Vergne during the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix last weekend.
The television cameras during the coverage of the race had failed to show the green flag clearly but were showing the dashboard of Vettel’s car according to which he was driving in the no overtake zone under the cautionary yellow flags.
Hence, an issue had arisen that the Red Bull driver had broken an important FIA regulation that might cause him to lose the championship he won after that race. Even though a statement from the governing body has already cleared Vettel’s name, the new footage
revealing the green flag has erased any remaining doubts.
The in car feed had not been shown during the race but BBC reports that it was one of the videos provided to them and had not been broadcast due to it being in transit from Brazil. It is reported that the footage is still very unclear at full speed but the
green flag is visible if slowed down.
Following the controversy, rival team Ferrari had sent in a request to FIA for the clarification of the rules and if Vettel was at mistake or not. FIA had responded by clearly stating the rules of the race and saying that there was no case to answer.
According to them, the immediate changes taking place on the trackside are a priority for the driver to follow. Vettel had passed the green flag before he completed his move to overtake.
On the other hand, after the clear statement from FIA, Ferrari has put the issue to rest. The statement from the team said that they had not sent in the request to challenge the result of the Brazilian GP but in fact to clear the issue for all their fans
who had contacted them with their questions regarding the overtake move. The team said that they fully respect the decisions of the FIA and they officially consider the matter to be closed.
