New world number one Mark Williams says he has proved his point now – Snooker news
The Welsh Potting Machine Mark Williams slipped down to the 47th number in the world ranking as he took his eyes off the balls but now after three years he has regained his number one spot and is currently the best snooker player on the planet
according to the world rankings.
The Welshman, Williams, told the media many people started thinking as if he is never going to be the world number one now but they have been proved wrong as he zipped everyone’s mouth by clinching the top place.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I had a few people patting me on the back and saying ‘well done’ on getting to number one again after the Worlds. But there were a couple of people who thought I would never get back to where I am now. I have proved
them wrong and I can stick two fingers up to them.”
The former 2000 and 2003 World Champion, Mark Williams, who is currently in Bangkok, Thailand with his teammate Matthew Stevens to represent his country in the PTT-EGAT Snooker World Cup, was asked by the media how long can he retain the top place.
The 36-year-old, Williams, replied by saying he cannot really say anything as he knows there is a lot more competition these days than it was before.
“It’s going to be very difficult to stay there at number one, especially under these new ranking revisions which happen every couple of months,” said Williams.
He added he does not bother anymore if he remains in the top spot or not as he has proved his worth and capabilities to everyone.
“How long can I stay there? Whether it’s three months, six months or a year, I don’t care. I’ve proved my point now,” added Williams.
Let’s see whether Williams, who is widely considered as the best long potter of all times, can really hold the number one spot for a long period of time or not.
