  1. My friend, it will be a lot better and cheaper to take the subway from Penn Station to Times Square. The fare is $2 a person for a one way trip and that's a lot cheaper than a taxi.

    Good luck

  2. Most of the cabs in the city are sedans that will seat up to 4 people. There are also a few mini vans that are cabs. The price is the same whether there is 1 - 4 people in the cab. I wouldn't bother taking a cab unless one of your party is unable to walk 1/2 a mile.

  3. Why would you take a cab when this trip is walkable?  Penn station is @34th St. between 7th & 8th Aves.  Just walk north on 7th Ave. to 42nd St.  It's only 8 blocks.

  4. With tip, you'll be paying about $6-$10, depending on the amount of traffic.  If there was little traffic (say in the middle of the night), you'd get there in a just a couple of minutes.  With normal traffic, you're looking at from 5-15 minutes.

  5. A cab would likely cost between $5 and $10, plus tip.  You don't have to pay for extra people; the fare is for the car, not per person.

I agree with the other answerers, though.  A cab makes very little sense here, unless you're carrying a HUGE amount of stuff or there's some other reason to need a cab.  This walk takes under ten minutes.  It's also roughly a two-minute subway ride on the 1/2/3 trains.

It's a nice walk right up 7th Avenue, I do it all the time.
