  1. Infant adoption is not likely in the U.K.

  2. Babies being abandoned is very rare - so much so that it makes national news everytime it happens. Many of those babies are actually reunited with their mother who may have just been suffering a form of shock after the birth.

There are relatively few newborn babies that come up for adoption and it's probably best to not pin your hopes on getting one. Whereas 50 years ago, women would get pregnant and feel they couldn't keep the baby because they were young and unmarried, social stigmas around unmarried mothers no longer really exist. If a 15 year old gets pregnant, she'll have an abortion, or keep the baby. Not many go through a pregnancy and then give the baby up for adoption.

There are lots of older children or children with special needs who come up for adoption however. You could really help such children out. Adoption is a gruelling process though and typically takes at least a year so you might want to register as soon as possible.

  3. It is possible, speak to your local social services or i found this website which may be of help.

  4. Where do you 'always' hear of babies being abandoned?  it's quite rare actually

There are plenty of children in foster care who need a good home, please don't overlook them just because you want a baby, I'm sure you could open your heart and home to a child really in need

Since private adoption (babies for sale - a la USA style) is illegal in the UK, you won't find so many adoptable newborns

It's possible though, so contact your local authority to enquire - the information received there will be far more reliable than over the internet!
