My son is now 3 days old, he has been eating as much as it seems he should be (breastfeeding average 25 min every 2 hours) the thing is at the hospital they told me he should go p**p as many times a day as he is days old until about 6 days, well today he hasn't gone at all, but he has peed twice. He doesn't seem uncomfortable, should i be worried?

  1. My son pooped every THREE days without any discomfort. Still had normal wet diapers. If his BM's are hard when he does go, that is a sign he needs to be checked. It's more about the consistency than frequency.

  2. I wouldn't worry. Babies are pretty resilient. Feel his stomach. If it's not hard, he is fine for today. If nothing happens overnight through early morning, call your Dr.

**Also, a little trick I learned when my daughter was newborn. When they get gas, lay them on their back, roll your fingers across his stomach in a clockwise direction 3-4 times. Then take his feet and push his knees into his stomach. It will help relieve the gas.

I just figured I'd share some advice that I had to learn on my own. :)

  3. My pediatrician told me that some babies p**p up to four times a day, while some p**p every other day. I think what's "normal" is just what's normal for your baby. As long as he poops every other day, I think he's okay

  4. no don't worry, when he has to go he will go, congrats on your new baby!

  5. Call the Peditrician in the Am -- they might want to check the bilirubin count... sometimes a New born can develope a little jaundice and one sign is NO p**p... and a little light can help if that is the problem.

  6. you should be okay til then.... most babies absorb all their p**p so they may keep it as food stored.......thats why when were pregnant we dont p**p as much either ( sorry if i offend anyone) but its true.

  7. Well, it just so happens i work on mother/baby at a hospital and we get questions like this all the time. First of all, listen to what they told you at the hospital. What they told you is very true. your baby should in fact have a bowel movement as many times a day as he is old until about one week old. Honestly we had a  bay brought in at one week old and the baby had not had a BM in I believe it was 4-5 days and her baby actually passed away due to a bowel obstruction. You need to contact your pediatrician with all concerns. Why take a chance? Its not worth it... call your pediatricians office even if its after business hours. A on-call doctor should be available to you at all times...

  8. You might be able to "help him out" by doing some light leg exercises.  I used to "run a triathlon" with my son.  Lay him on your lap and mimic the leg motions for swimming, running, and cycling.  You can also lightly push both legs back (as if he were squatting)Again, this is LIGHT exercise - nothing too severe.  I often had a poo within 30 minutes.

  9. You shouldn't be worried... But keep an eye out for yellowing of the skin called Jaundice.

  10. don't be worried, my son did the same thing, but when he did p**p, watch out! LOL...For my son it was completely normal (I worried about that too)...

  11. He should have 6-8 wet diapers a day, but I wouldnt worry about pooping. If he isnt uncomfortable, then I wouldnt worry about it. Good luck.
