Newbury hopeful about Saturday’s card as Richard Osgood reveals the ground good for all races - Horseracing Update
Newbury horseracing track hopes to host all eight fixtures of Saturday, February 11, successfully, as the temperature is likely to improve during the next couple of days.
Earlier, there was great uncertainty about the weather and some of the racing experts feared that the weekend’s card would be abandoned.
But the clerk of the course, Richard Osgood revealed last night that the ground would be available for action.
After keen inspections of the track and overviews of the weather database, Osgood predicted that temperature was likely to go up by 4C till Saturday.
He also told that the entire field had been covered to hamper frost from creating moisture.
The clerk said:
“At the moment, we are going to get a frost on Tuesday night, which will probably be the worst frost we have all week, and temperatures will not get up much on Wednesday, when it will be about 1C and cloudy.”
Osgood added:
“There will be another frost on Wednesday night, but not as bad. Moving into Thursday it should again be up to about 2C and down to about zero overnight. There is a weather front coming through from the south-west and they think that would bring a mixture
of rain, sleet and snow.”
Newbury is set to host following races on the weekend.
1: Betfair. Don´t Settle For Less Novices´ Hurdle Cl3 2m110y
2: Betfair Novices´ Chase (Registered As The Scilly Isles Novices´ Chase) Grade     1 Cl1 2m4f
3: Betfair Supports Walking With The Wounded Handicap Hurdle Cl2 3m110y CH4
4: Betfair Denman Chase Grade 2 Cl1 3m CH4
5: Betfair Super Saturday Chase (Registered As The Game Spirit Chase) Grade 2     Cl1 2m1f CH4
6: Betfair Hurdle (Handicap) (Grade 3) Cl1 2m110y CH4
7: Betfair. Don´t Settle For Less Novices´ Chase Cl3 3m
8: Betfair Mobile For Best Prices Bumper Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race       (Listed Race) Cl1 2m110y
The ongoing cold wave, consisting of heave frost, intense snowfalls and low temperatures, is affecting the routine races badly. Every day, a number of fixtures are to be abandoned due to unready courses.
However, the Newbury ground staff is h**l-bent to make all the scheduled contests possible.
