Newbury or Epsom? Which is better?

Which is nicer, less expensive, and safe?

Have to go For Newbury, less traffic, slightly cheaper and safer. Also its farther away from London which is always a blessing.

Both of these two I associate with racecourses. I'd go for Epsom: I was never very successful at Newbury. I'd say that Epsom was nicer, in the Surrey downs. The area around Newbury is flat although the Kennet river is nearby. Epsom will almost certainly be more expensive than Newbury, because it's nicer. I'd regard both areas as safe although Epsom is predominantly middle class whereas Newbury is mixed. Unlike the other answerer I regard proximity to London as an asset rather than a liability.
