Reports from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 state that Newcastle United have seen their move for Marseille’s Loic Remy rejected by the club and were told that the striker would cost them a lot more than what they offered to pay for him.
French newspapers claim that Newcastle United offered around €12 million for the 25-year old French international, but their bid was rejected by Marseille as they don’t consider it close to their valuation of the striker, which is believed to be around €18
million.
It is understood that Newcastle have been interested in Remy since 2008, and have finally decided to further their interest with a bid for the player.
Remy stands at 6ft tall and primarily plays as a lone striker. He is also able to operate on the wings and as a second striker and is known for his strength and pace.
He joined Marseille from Nice in 2010 after having played for Lyon and serving a brief loan spell at Lens. Remy has been a prolific goal scorer in the French top flight, scoring a total of 69 club goals in 184 appearances. For Marseille, Remy has managed
83 appearances and scored 37 goals.
It comes as a surprise that Newcastle have suddenly bid for Remy after being strongly linked with the return of former striker Andy Carroll. However, manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew is keen on adding a striker to the Magpies’ squad, especially after having missed out
on FC Twente’s Dutch star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956, who has signed for German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Loic Remy is under contract with Marseille till the summer of 2015 and there is reportedly a €25 million release clause in his contract that states the player can leave the club in January. Remy has also been linked with the likes of North London’s Tottenham
Hotspur and French club and former Ligue 1 champions Lille.
Both clubs had reportedly failed to match Marseille’s €18 million valuation, with reports claiming that Spurs had offered €12 million last month. At the moment, Remy is still a Marseille player, but with 4 weeks to go till the transfer window closes, you
never know where he’ll be playing next season.
