Newcastle United’s latest bid for Lille’s full-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Debuchy-c24682 has been rejected by the French club. The Magpies table an improved offer for the 27-year old French international, but the player’s club were not interested.
This comes as a blow to the Tyneside outfit, who had been pursuing Debuchy for months. Lille have previously done business successfully with Newcastle. The French club had sold midfielder Yohan Cabaye to Newcastle for £4.9 million last summer. They have
however refused to budge on their stance on Debuchy and straight away rejected the offer made by the English side.
Lille apparently value Debuchy at around £6.3 million, and Newcastle have failed to match their asking price with their most recent and improved bid. Lille appear to have grown tired of waiting around for the English side to offer a more handsome fee for
their star player, and club president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Seydoux told the club yesterday that they can forget about signing Debuchy.
This will come as a blow to the Magpies, who had been looking forward to landing the player, especially after he himself had stated his desire of moving to the club and named them his ‘priority’. Debuchy has been a long term target of manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew,
who is still keen on bringing some big names and faces to Tyneside before the new Premier League campaign starts.
Newcastle have, however, not given up on landing the player and still remain hopeful of bringing him to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 had spoken about Debuchy’s desire to come to Newcastle.
Speaking to the press last week, Cabaye had said:
“Mathieu has made a very difficult to decision to leave Lille, but he has made the decision. Now I hope Newcastle push for Mathieu and I want them to do the deal.”
"I spoke with him two days ago and he told me he wants to come. I hope Derek (Llambias) and [owner] Mike Ashley will do the business now. He wants to play for Newcastle and I hope that he comes to Newcastle because, of course, he is my friend, but also a
very good player for Newcastle.''
