Newcastle A1 and A2 greyhound race recaps
Newcastle saw two A1 races and two A2 races Wednesday night. The slowest winner of the four races was 10-1 longshot, Chloe Flow at 29.54 seconds.
In the first A1 race, run at 11:42, Flow ran out of the fourth trap and was behind early, but a late surge after the fourth bend put her in the lead. She finished the race 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Maladjusted, who was slow out of the traps. Sunridge Ruby finished in third, missing second by only a head. A Ken Hondo finished fourth and Dark Arizona fifth. 6-4 race favourite Fagans Kiko finished in sixth. Kiko lost ground early and was never able to recover.
The second A1 race was run at 12:58, and saw Diamonte Sparkle beat Flying Cool by a neck. Sparkle led shortly out of the traps and kept the lead with four hounds just behind. Flying Cool beat Frosty Cool by ¾ lengths to keep second, and race favourite, Skywalker Leia, was another ¾ lengths behind Frosty Cool. Skywalker Dazl finished another length behind in fifth. Longshot, Mellors, was slow out of the traps and finished last.
The first A2 race went at 12:12. Lil Ally took the lead after the third bend, and beat Crooksblackjack by ¾ lengths. Race favourite at 9-4, Son Of Goblin, led early but dropped back after Ally took the lead. Goblin finished in third, a head in front of Cairns Dallas. Spocklet, at 10-1, finished in fifth beating Climbing Dymon, at 4-1, by a shoulder. Cairns Dallas replaced Crack Commando in the third trap.
The second A2 race, held at 12:42 saw even odds race favourite, Rain Splash Rik, lose by ¾ lengths to Droopys Moore. Moore, at 6-1, and Rik were close, but Moore took a late lead to win. Longshot, Tursdale Happy, was happy to place third. Happy was slow out of the traps, and lost ground early but still was able to finish in third. Georgie Blue finished in fourth, just a shoulder behind Happy. The Whipster finished in fifth after a poor start and Bay City Johnny finished in last after checking early.
The final race of the day at Newcastle saw race favourite, Target Mist, beat Fulwood Smiling by 2 ½ lengths. Fulwood was slow from the traps and forced to check on the first bend. A Ken Lizzy lost ground midway through the race and ended in third. Wine And Flossie took fourth spot and 10-1 longshot, Killoe Star, took fifth after losing ground early and late in the race. Rabbits Guide trailed Star by a neck and finished last.
