Newcastle Falcons sign full-time contract with impressive Josh Beaumont – Rugby Union news
Kingston Park based English Professional Rugby Union side, Newcastle Falcons, has acquired the services of the young and talented lock, Josh Beaumont, for their 2011/12 Aviva Premiership campaign. Club officials have confirmed the signing of Beaumont in
a statement released on their website on Wednesday, July 6.
The 19-year-old Josh Beaumont is the son of the former star rugby player, Bill Beaumont.
Josh is considered a versatile player and has played at several different positions on the field. He has performed exceptionally well at each position and is currently playing for his local rugby union club, Fylde.
Josh is a student of Geography at Durham University and is expected to join the Newcastle Falcons squad at the end of the July. Additionally, he has also played for Barbarians and England Counties in his short career.
Fylde head coach, Mark Nelson, has expressed confidence in Josh and believes that he has the skills and abilities to excel in the senior team. He said, “Josh is a young player with a great deal of potential. He is developed through school and with Alan Holmes
at the Fylde core he has made a big contribution to the club winning the National 2 Championship last season. I am delighted that the Falcons have taken him on board and I am sure that under their expert tuition he will make real progress.”
Josh Beaumont’s academy coach, Mark Laycock, has termed his full time contract with the professional outfit as big achievement. Laycock added that Josh will continue to play for Fylde. He said, “He is a Fylde RFC boy through and through and won the national
BUCS Championships this season with Durham University.”
Commenting on his physical attributes and skills, Laycock added, “He is a powerful athlete, who is intelligent in the lineout and confrontational in the contact area. Josh will join up with the Falcons first team squad outside of term time to train because
his university commitments take priority at the moment.”
Mark Nelson has termed the signing as a great example of cooperation between the Premiership clubs and the National League clubs. He said, “This is a great example of Premiership clubs working positively with National League clubs and universities to develop
young English players with real potential."
It is obvious that rugby talent runs in the family but it is yet to be seen if the player can truly match his father’s performance on the field.
