Newcastle United boss praises Carling Cup opponents Chelsea
Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has lauded English Premier League giants Chelsea ahead of the sides meeting in the third-round of the Carling Cup tonight.
Though they suffered disappointment against Manchester United in the FA Community Shield before the EPL season kicked off, Chelsea have got the new campaign off to a storming start, having scored 21 goals and conceded just one as they picked up maximum points
from their five league games so far.
The Stamford Bridge side have been able to continue that form in the UEFA Champions League as well, having thrashed MSK Zilina 4-1 in their opening group stage match.
Now, Hughton’s side are next in the firing line for Carlo Ancelotti’s men as Newcastle travel to London for tonight’s game. The Magpies boss is looking forward to the contest and took time out from his preparations to praise his team’s opponents.
'Chelsea look like complete team'
He told reporters that: “What Chelsea are is a phenomenal side at home and at the moment, they look like the complete team. They can score goals for fun and they are not shipping in any at the other end. But as soon as the draw was made, we were aware how
tough a task it is going to be to get something there. The most important thing is that we keep a momentum in our game — that we come away from the game having got something from it."
Newcastle are going into the game with confidence after they beat Everton 1-0 in the league last weekend. Though Chelsea have shown their considerable prowess in front of goal so far this season, Newcastle have shown that they are also capable of emerging
from a match as comprehensive victors, as they proved in their 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa earlier in the season.
