Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez and club manager, Alan Pardew have praised young midfielder Shane Ferguson for his performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.
The Magpies beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 4-1 at St. James’ Park and climbed up to ninth position in the Barclays Premier League table. Ferguson played 58 minutes in his first start for the club and was really influential in the left-back role. A minor knock to regular left-back Jose Enrique opened the door for Ferguson and he did not let his team down. Gutierrez is impressed by the character the 19-year-old showed in the game and has tipped him for a bright future with the club.
Gutierrez told reporters, "I know Fergie [Shane Ferguson] because we have trained together every day. Maybe the fans don't know him too much because he's a young player, but he has a great future."
He added, "He still has a lot to learn, but he is young and if he thinks about what he can do, he can have a great future at Newcastle. He has to be prepared to play and to be ready when the team needs him."
It was also revealed that manager Alan Pardew desperately wanted Enrique to play in the game but the medical staff did not allow him, as the Spaniard was not fit enough. However, Pardew was very happy with Ferguson’s performance and predicted that he would start many more games in the future.
The Newcastle manager said, "I will mention Fergie because this boy, it's before his time, really. He shouldn't be playing in a game of that magnitude, but we didn't have many bodies and he came in and was absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed his performance.”
The former West Ham United manager added that the Premier League is a different level for the youngster but he coped with the pressure really well. However, Pardew is hopeful that Ferguson will be available for the club’s next game.
Ferguson has already represented his country at all levels and has made six appearances for Newcastle United so far.
