Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan misses the final two games of the season – EPL news
Newcastle United skipper, Kevin Nolan, has been ruled out of the remaining two English Premier League fixtures after it was revealed by the club that the 28-year-old will undergo surgery on his troublesome ankle.
A statement on Newcastle’s official website said, "Kevin Nolan will undergo a minor operation on his right ankle later which will see him miss United's last two games of the season. The skipper has been troubled by an ankle problem throughout the season,
but the operation is going ahead now in order to allow him time to regain full fitness prior to the start of United's pre-season program in July."
Nolan has been instrumental for the Magpies this season; the player has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances in the Premier League and also has received lot of praise for his leadership qualities at Tyneside.
After having a superb 2010/11 season for Newcastle, Nolan has attracted interest from other football clubs. Despite reports linking the midfielder elsewhere, Newcastle manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew is determined to hold on to his prized asset and a new contract is
being worked out in order to convince the player to stay at St James Park.
If indeed Nolan signs a new deal with Newcastle, it will also help the outfit to keep other players at the club. Earlier, midfielder Joey Barton stated that chances of him remaining at St James Park will depend on whether Nolan stays or not.
The Magpies had a decent 2010/11 Premier League season after being promoted from the npower Championship (League 2). Currently, the Magpies are placed 11th in the EPL table after collecting 44 points from 36 games. Their recent 2-1 victory over
Birmingham City in an EPL fixture made sure that Pardew’s troops maintain their top flight status for at least another campaign.
After securing their Premier League place, it makes sense that the Newcastle management want to their skipper to take his time recovering from the injury. Meanwhile, Newcastle will travel to Stamford Bridge for their next EPL match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on May
15, 2011.
