Newcastle United place Joey Barton on the transfer list, for free – EPL News
Newcastle United have officially confirmed that the Magpies’ outspoken midfielder, Joey Barton, has been placed on the transfer list and will be allowed to leave the St. James Park on a free transfer.
The club board’s decision to put Barton on the transfer list came after the English midfielder publically criticized the club hierarchy on his twitter account and also threatened to reveal the club’s secrets.
Newcastle United made an official announcement on their website that Barton has now been placed on the transfer list and the Magpies are ready to let the English midfielder go for free in spite of him having a year remaining on his current contract with
the Tyneside club.
A statement of Newcastle United’s official website read, “Newcastle United can confirm that Joey Barton has been placed on the transfer list on Monday," said the club statement. The player has been advised that he can leave the club on a free transfer."
After learning about the Toon’s decision to put him on the transfer list, the 28-year-old replied to the club management on his official Twitter account. Barton revealed that it was a huge honour for him to wear the black and white jersey of Newcastle United.
The former Manchester City midfielder also asserted that Newcastle United board members should respect the heritage of the club and has claimed that the board will regret their decision of letting him go.
The English midfielder wrote on his official Twitter account, "Somewhere in those high echelons of NUFC they have decided I am persona non grata. I am on a free but the honour of wearing those black and white stripes surpasses that. One day the board might
realise what the shirt signifies. HONOUR and PRIDE. Thanks for your continued support."
Joey Barton was an integral player of Newcastle United squad that earned the promotion to the Barclays Premier League two seasons ago and managed to extend their stay in the top flight after finishing 12th in the League standings. The 28-year-old
was so influential for Newcastle United that the Magpies failed to mark a single win in his absence.
Barton, who joined Newcastle United from Manchester City, scored five times in 35 matches last season.
