Newcastle United youngster Andy Carroll inks new contract
Newcastle United forward Andy Carroll has officially inked a new and improved five year contract with the newly promoted Premier league side. Carroll is a product of Magpies youth academy and has spent his entire career playing for Newcastle United.
The new contract keeps the 21 year old striker at St James park till 2015 and the player was delighted to be part of this historic club. Carroll burst on to the premier league scene when he scored an unforgettable hatrick against Aston Villa, in what was
his second match of the premier league. In total, Carroll has scored a total of 4 times in 7 appearances and is one of the most promising youngsters emerging in the UK.
"All I have ever wanted to do is play for Newcastle United. That's been the case since I was a teenager, playing for the juniors and reserves, and it's still the same now. Every time I pull on the black and white shirt - and even more so now that I have
number nine on my back - it means the world to me, so to be able to do that for at least the next five years is brilliant," claimed the player while talking to the club’s official website. Andy Carroll was handed the club’s legendary Number 9 shirt, famously
worn by English legend Alan Shearer. The player is a traditional number 9 player, having the ability to go forward and is speedy. Owing to his age, Carroll has the talent to become one of the top players in the country.
Carroll’s style of play has been compared with Magpies legend Alan Shearer and Peter Crouch. Italy’s legendary goal keeper Gianluigi Buffon summed up Carroll’s style of play by saying he is a paint brush striker, owing to his expert finishing capabilities.
Newcastle United director Derek Llambias was also happy to give the contract to the centre forward. The director stated that Magpies have a policy of developing the youth and encourage the youngsters to play for the club. Carroll is therefore a perfect
example of those players who have come from the ranks at Newcastle United and was delighted to have the players for a long term. The director labelled Carroll as being one of those players who are future stars of the club and the club spent a long time in
deciding the right deal for the player.
Carroll played a huge part in bringing Newcastle United back to the premier league, following the club’s relegation to the Championship one year ago. In his 42 appearances, Carroll scored 19 times in all competitions last season, when he was 20 years of
age. The player has the speed to disrupt and defence and for him to thrash a side like Aston Villa in his second match of the season is just extraordinary.
Carroll also has a good shot, power and technique which gives him the edge in one on one situations. For a player like Buffon to label a youngster like Carroll as being the finisher is an extraordinary comment, as Buffon is considered to be one of the best
goal keepers of his time. Alan Shearer was also happy with the way Carroll controlled the ball and claimed that if there was someone who had the talent to wear the number 9 shirt, it would be Andy Carroll. Both can be compared owing to their almost perfect
blend of shot power and technique, which is lethal for any goalkeeper.
