Influential Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has claimed that he has all the attributes to play for English national team. Barton from England’s upcoming international friendly against Netherlands.
Capello recently named his England squad to face the 2010 World Cup runners-up, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, at Wembley Stadium. The match was scheduled for August 10 but unfortunate riots across London, which later spread to other parts of the country, ensured that the
friendly could not take place.
The Three Lions boss dropped the under-fire Newcastle United midfielder, labelling him a ‘dangerous player’. The Italian believes that the Magpies midfielder is a good player but his temperament on the pitch needs to improve.
The Three Lions managers said, “I think Joey Barton is a good player but he is a dangerous player because sometimes on the pitch you can play 10 vs. 11 because he might get sent off.”
Capello’s comments against Barton came after the midfielder was caught up in a row with his club. The English midfielder openly criticised Newcastle United’s policies and lack of ambition. Consequently, the Magpies board decided to offload the former Manchester
City midfielder for free.
Moreover, the English manager also revealed that the one of the major reasons for not selecting Barton for the upcoming friendly was his ongoing conflict with his club.
However, Barton has insisted that he will be working day and night to impress the England manager as he aims to represent his country in EURO 2012 and in London 2012 Olympics. The 28-year-old midfielder is content with his progress in the last seasons and
feels that he would have improve next term in order to earn England cap.
The Magpies midfielder wrote on his twitter account, “My goal is to get in that Euro 2012 squad and the team for the Olympics. All I can do is more of what I did last season. If it’s enough, it’s enough. I’m going to take the fact he (Capello) used the words
‘Barton’ and ‘good player’ in the same sentence. All I want is the opportunity to prove the rest.”
Joey Barton has played only once for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in February 2007 during Steve McClaren’s tenure.
