Newcastle United’s Stephen Ireland hoping to stay at St.James Park on a permanent basis - EPL news
Republic of Ireland international and Newcastle’s attacking midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Ireland-c34149, has expressed his desire of signing a permanent contract with Newcastle United, which would keep the player at St.James Park for good.
He admitted his delight on being a part of Alan Pardew’s army but showed his disappointment upon his long term injury that has kept him out of competitive football for nearly five months.
Ireland claimed that manager Alan Pardew previously hinted upon signing him on a permanent basis. He further revealed that it would be the happiest moment in his career if the deal comes good.
The former Aston Villa player said while speaking to reporters, "This is a good place for me to settle in the next few months, and who knows what could happen in the summertime. It could turn out to be permanent. We don't know, or it could turn into a loan
again. We will see what happens in the next two months."
Ireland was named City’s player of the season during the 2009-10 season after which, he landed at Villa Park. He went out of consideration under new Villa boss Gerard Houllier and as a result, was loaned out to Newcastle United during the January transfer
window.
The 24-year-old revealed his disappointment on not being able to play for a long period of time, however, good news is that he has been declared fit by the club’s medical staff.
Commenting upon his time at Villa, the midfielder said, "It has been an absolute nightmare - it feels like I have not kicked a ball for so long. I have not played competitively for so long and it has been difficult. When the new manager came in at Villa,
I was left out of eight squads in a row - and that hurts."
Ireland, since arriving at Tyneside in January, has not been able to make his debut due to injury. Now the midfielder has been announced fit and hopes to make a return in competitive football after a long lay-off.
Newcastle United are currently ninth in the League table with 39 points and are level on points with 10th placed West Bromwich Albion, having a better goal difference.
