Newcastle United have agreed a new three-year deal with defender James Tavernier, who rose through the academy ranks and will now be looking to make an impact with the first team.
Tavernier is rated very highly by club manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew and the reserve team coaching staff. The 20-year old fullback has already made his first team debut with the club and is looking forward to making an impact next season.
The youngster knows he won’t get many chances to impress the manager, and is not taking anything for granted. Newcastle have been surprisingly active in the transfer market and have reportedly been in the pursuit of big names such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Debuchy-c24682.
Debuchy has been a major Newcastle target and is expected to complete a move to the Sports Direct Arena in the coming days. The highly rated French full-back will prove to be a great addition to Pardew’s squad.
Tavernier will have to take advantage of every chance he gets, and knows that with new players coming in, he will have a hard time standing out and getting noticed. But the player admits that he has a big season ahead of him.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the player said:
"It's a massive year and it's just about getting really at it from the start - from now - because my main aim is to really push on and get in this team next year," he told the club's website."
"There's going to be more chances for all the young lads that are coming through so it is obviously a big step where we maybe can play in those games and make an impact."
"There's plenty of games coming up and obviously the European qualifiers and hopefully I can get a chance in one of those games, have a really good game and show that I can actually be in this team."
Tavernier is keen on representing the club in the black and white jersey this season, but admits that he is also open to a loan move if seen fit by the manager and if it helps his development as a player.
