The football association has fined Newcastle United and Sunderland for not being able to control their players during a derby match at the Sports Direct Arena earlier in the month.
The Magpies were handed a forty thousand pound fine, while Sunderland were punished with a twenty thousand pound penalty after a heated match between the two sides which saw tempers rise. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
An FA statement said: "Newcastle United and Sunderland have been fined £40,000 and £20,000 respectively after both clubs admitted a charge of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.”
The incident occurred on 4th March in a Premier League match between the two clubs after a 19th minute challenge by Sunderland's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson.
Simpson responded angrily to the defender’s tackle which catalyzed a violent ruction between the two sides with all the players getting involved in the incident.
Newcastle have been fined more than Sunderland as it was the club’s second offence of similar nature, in the same season. Besides being slapped with the hefty fines, the FA also issued an official warning as to the future conduct of both the teams.
"As this is Newcastle United's second misconduct charge of a similar nature in the same season, the standard punishment fine has been doubled in line with current regulations." The statement added.
The game, marred by acerbity and flared-up tempers, ended in a 1-1 draw. In total, five of Newcastle players were shown a yellow card while four Black Cats players were booked during the match, including two red cards, for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868 and
Stephane Sessegnon. Sessegnon was shown a straight red after he flung his arm in Tiote's face in the 58th minute, while Cattermole, who had already received a yellow card during the play, was red carded after the final whistle.
In the match, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 put the visitors in front in the 24th minute after scoring from a penalty kick in the first half. However, the lead for the Black Cats was cancelled out after a stoppage time goal from Shola Ameobi. The Magpies did
get a penalty, eight minutes from time, when Ameobi was tripped by Campbell but the ensuing penalty from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 was kept out by Sunderland’s goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet.
