Newcastle United are hoping to get Papiss Cisse out of the ruling to represent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 in the World Cup as they don't want to risk not having him around for the opening of the new season.
On 2nd July 2012, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew revealed the possibility of Papiss Demba Cisse being selected for Senegal’s football team for the 2012 London Olympics. This would result in the 27-year old missing out on the Magpies’ pre-season programme.
The striker arrived last season in the January winter transfer window from Freiburg. Cisse was relatively unheard by fans in the Premier League, but the Senegalese international burst onto the scene with his prolific goal scoring form. Cisse managed to score
13 goals in 14 appearances, banging in goals that wooed Newcastle fans and football neutrals alike. His performances helped Newcastle seal the fifth spot after an impressive campaign in the English top flight. His goal against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Stamford Bridge went
viral all over the Internet and helped the player gain prominence and was nominated as Goal of the Season.
Newcastle could however be deprived of the striker’s services till the new season starts. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew would prefer for his striker to stay, but said that he will not stand in the player’s way to represent his country in the Olympics.
Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, he said: “We have to give our permission and we are sort of discussing it.
"It's awkward because we want to prepare for a difficult season ahead of Europa League and Premier League games."
But earlier this morning, news came out that Newcastle have blocked Senegal’s request to include Cisse in their Olympic squad. Cisse was expected to join his national team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 and begin training camp in the next few days, but it looks like the player
will have to wait till an agreement is reached between his club and country.
Current rules of the games imply that clubs have the right not release over-aged players for the Olympic Games. Cisse, who is 26-years old, falls into the over-age bracket and this could help Newcastle’s cause in attempting to keep hold of him for their
pre-season training camp.
Newcastle have informed Cisse about their intention of including him in their pre-season plans. Cisse, who would obviously love to represent his country in the Olympics will be resigned to accepting Newcastle’s decision.
