Newcastle United have admitted defeat in their attempts to re-sign former striker Andy Carroll from Liverpool.
The Magpies had been in pursuit of their once prolific striker ever since the transfer window opened back in June. The England international was understood to be not part of new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers' plans and has not featured for the club so far.
Sources in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 suggested that the striker did not fit into Rodgers' attacking football philosophy. The manager was keen on implementing the attacking style of play that saw him succeed with Swansea City. Carroll, who mainly operates as a target man and
typical English centre forward, was not seen as someone who would fit into this system.
Carroll only managed appearances in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 and has yet not started a game for the club since the Premier League commenced this month.
The Magpies had tabled a bid for the striker they themselves sold to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for £35 million in January last year. The deal surprised many, firstly because of the price and secondly because Carroll had been so important for Newcastle United and was in
terrific form at the time.
Sadly, the striker failed to make an impact for Liverpool, and never really looked like he had settled in. Sources in England and Merseyside suggested that Carroll would only leave Anfield for Tyneside, and a move back to Newcastle looked imminent.
However, Rodgers rejected Newcastle’s bid for the player and Carroll looks like he’ll be staying at Anfield for now.
When http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was asked about the possibility of Carroll’s return, he replied: "Not as far as I'm aware, no."
The manager also spoke about his transfer dealings and added:
"We are just watching the market and seeing if anything pops its head up that's appealing to us.”
"Agents keep ringing me and giving me all sorts of names - they must think we don't scout - but we are aware of the ones we are watching and if they decide to move on, then we might trigger ourselves.”
"But at the moment, the targets we have are all very much secure at their clubs."
