Newcastle United have moved a step closer to signing long term and high priority target http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486. The Dutch player is understood to have undergone a medical with the club yesterday.
Magpies’ manager Alan Pardew will be happy and relieved to have finally moved closer to landing one of his high priority targets after moves for Lille’s right back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 failed.
The manager had been visibly frustrated as he failed to make major headway in the transfer market. Despite having signed promising youngsters Gael Bigirimana, Curtis Good and Romain Amalfitano, Pardew struggled with his other targets and was still not happy
with the squad.
Now, he is without most of his key players going into the new Premier League season. The likes of Cheick Tiote, Fabricio Coloccini, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 and Papiss Demba Cisse are all expected to miss the club’s crucial opener against Tottenham
Hotspur this Saturday. Pardew will be worried as he takes on a new look and stronger Tottenham squad without most of his star players.
However, Anita’s arrival could solve a lot of problems for the Magpies. The Dutch player is extremely versatile and can operate as a defensive midfielder, or anywhere in defence. This will help Pardew rotate his squad and adjust for injured players.
The player reportedly completed a medical at Tyneside yesterday and held discussions with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 suggest that Ajax and Newcastle agreed to a fee of £6.7 million for the midfielder.
Newcastle will be hoping to complete the deal before Saturday’s big kick off so that the player is ready for inclusion in the squad that will take on Tottenham.
Speaking to the press earlier this week, Anita had said:
"I think it [the transfer] will be finished soon, but you never know how it will go.”
"I have played for Ajax for 13 years, it has been a great time and I am grateful to Ajax.”
"Now it's up to me. But first I want to talk with the manager of Newcastle United before taking a decision. The whole picture has to be right for me."
