The English Premier League side has reportedly launched a four million Euros bid to acquire the services of the Brazilian-born Dutch stopper.
Reports indicate that Newcastle United have tabled a four million bid to acquire the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede central defender, Douglas, in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old centre-back, who has been plying his trade at De Grolsch Veste since the summer of 2007, has long been targeted by the English Premier League outfit.
However, both parties have failed to reach an agreement over the transfer fee, as the Eredivisie side’s asking price for their prized asset is more than eight million Euros.
The tall defender, who has a contract at De Grolsch Veste that runs until the summer of 2013, has thus far represented the Tukkers in over 100 Eredivisie matches, providing rock solid defence while adding his name to the score-sheet
on nine occasions along the way.
His consistent showings for the past couple of seasons have tempted several elite European clubs to enquire about the former Joinville defender’s availability, with the Magpies tipped to be leading the race in landing his signature
before the start of the 2012/13 season.
The Toon Army have also reportedly set their sights on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Debuchy-c24682, as their primary target along with the Brazilian-born Dutch defender.
Newcastle struggled at the back during the 2011/12 campaign despite finishing fifth on the English Premier League table. The Magpies conceded 51 goals during the whole campaign, forcing the club management to bring reinforcements
to their back-line in order to compete successfully in the 2012/13 season.
Should http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s side manage to lure these aforementioned defender to St. James’ Park before the summer transfer window slams shut, their chances to compete for silverware next term will certainly receive a massive boost.
Although, the Magpies have still not met Twente’s asking price for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600, the Tukkers could very well be forced to sell their star defender in order to avoid letting him go free next summer.
Meanwhile, some reports in Dutch media claim that the Eredivisie side is looking to offer the 24-year-old a new contract in the coming days, though, it seems highly unlikely that the Brazilian-born Dutch stopper will put pen to
a contract extension.
