What is my quickest way of getting to the ferry port from Newcastle train station? I will have a bike with me - is there a quick route to cycle? Or any other ideas?!

  1. Jump on the metro. head for percy main - the terminal is about a 2 minute ride from percy main metro station.

  2. There is a bus from Newcastle Central Station to the DFDS Ferry Terminal. Turn Left out of the Station and walk about 50 metres. I don't know the time table or if you would be able to take your cycle.

I suggest that you contact Go North East customer service on 0845 60 60 260 and ask about taking your cycle and bus times.  The buses used do have extra luggage accommodation.

  3. Unfortunately bikes are not permitted on the metro, otherwise that would be the best suggestion. Check out the sustrans or C2C (Coast to coast) web site for cycle routes - it's only about 10 miles and pretty flat. You should be able to follow the river.  Check out Route 72 - see below.

"The route along the North bank of the River Tyne following Hadrian's Wall National Trail is now fully open and signposted either as route 72 or 'Hadrian's Way' although, the Millennium Bridge has now opened allowing you to ride the south or north bank of the Tyne and cycle over the river using this exceptional bridge."
