Newcastle’s Stephen Ireland finally to make his Magpies' debut against Manchester United: EPL News
Newcastle mid-fielder, Stephen Ireland, is all set to feature against the Premier League leaders, Manchester United, when Alan Pardew’s side will travel away to Old Trafford on Tuesday, 19 April. The attacking mid-fielder made his loan move from Aston Villa
at the start of the new-year but was side-lined due to various injury concerns.
Newcastle's manager, Alan Pardew, has confirmed that former Manchester City man would make his debut for the Magpies against the Red Devils but was unsure whether the midfielder would start the game or come on as a substitute.
Ireland was awarded City’s Player of the Year during the 2009 season, but soon went out of favour, when Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 took over from Mark Hughes. The 24-year-old then made his move to Aston Villa in a player plus cash deal. He failed to impress Villa’s
manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier, and soon found himself confined to the bench. In order to get some first team football under his belt, the mid-fielder was loaned out to Newcastle United on 31 January, 2011. Since then, he hasn’t managed to appear for the club and
will only make his debut against Manchester United on Tuesday evening.
Alan Pardew seemed excited at the availability of the 24-year-old and hoped that the mid-fielder could inspire the Magpies, in what is expected to be a very difficult evening for the Toons. He further added, "http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Ireland-c34149 will be involved in this game
and that's a big bonus because we have been waiting a long time for Stephen. His quality will help us in the last six games for sure. Technical quality - that's what he brings. You have got a player who has played at the highest level, and we have waited long
for him because of his injuries and setbacks that he's had.”
Pardew also praised the performance of the Red Devils, saying that the current United team might not be one of their best team’s but their results certainly prove that they have the quality and strength in their squad.
He concluded by mentioning, "Over the years, you could argue that they have had better teams - but this team doesn't seem to be listening to that and the stats are suggesting that this is as good as any they have had. They have got a fantastic opportunity
to get to the Champions League final, and they are probably going to win the Premier League.”
Newcastle United are currently 10th in the League table with 39 points while Manchester United are leading the flight with 69 points.
