My last name is Newland, but I've never met any others (aside from relatives). My uncle lives down in the North Carolina/Tennessee/Kentucky area, and my dad says there's some Newlands down there.

If your last name is Newland or you know one or you're related to one, please email me. Thanks!!

  1. There are genealogy bulletin boards devoted to the surname.

There are nation-wide phone books on the web.

    But -

At your parents' level, 1/2 of your relatives are not Newlands.

At your grandparents' level, 3/4 of your relatives are not Newlands.

At your great grand parents' level, 7/8 of your relatives are not Newlands.

    . . .

  2. Have a look at this site, there are three  more men with the same name as you in the USA.

  3. One basic rule in genealogy is that persons with the same last name will NOT always be related.  The reliable way to find (distant) relatives, always but always, is research.  When you start research, you identify your parents, and grandparents. You immediate know these (and their kids) will be related. After a bit of work (always backwards from the present), you find your gr gr gr grandparents..and know which ones are descended from them, using records and documents.

By the way.. don't forget that your father's name is Newland..but mom's family name is different. Same for your 4 grandparents.  Your relatives will not be restricted to the Newland name.

You might stop over at www.genforum.com... they do have surname boards.  It is very unlikely that you'll randomly run into relatives here.
