Newly appointed captain of Sri Lanka Tillakaratne Dilshan keen to join national side – Cricket news
The newly appointed captain of Sri Lanka cricket team Tillakaratne Dilshan, who is currently in India to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore in the lucrative Indian Premier League, said on Monday that he wants to leave the tournament early
to travel with the national side to England.
Dilshan’s intention of leaving the IPL early was revealed by his manager Roshan Abeysinghe who was talking to the media reporters on Monday.
“Dilshan is keen to travel with the team, to try and create a bond as some of the senior players will be joining the squad a bit late,” Abeysinghe told the media.
The prolific Sri Lanka all-rounder is one of the star performers of the money spinning Twenty20 League and has so far compiled a tally of 105 runs from 5 games.
Currently, 11 Sri Lanka players are part of various IPL franchises in the ongoing season.
Recently, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 requested the
SLC to allow the players to complete their stints with their respective franchises.
After negotiations with the BCCI, the Sri Lanka Cricket allowed its players to stay in India until May 18, 2011. The players are also happy over the Board’s decision but the newly appointed captain of Sri Lanka wants to be in the flight
that would take the national team to England on May 10. If this happens, Dilshan would have to end his stay with Royal Challengers Bangalore three weeks before the ongoing season of the IPL ends.
Dilshan was appointed as the limited-overs captain of the national side recently after the wicketkeeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara stepped down from the coveted role following Sri Lanka’s defeat to India in the final of the ICC World Cup 2011
in April.
Sri Lanka are to play a three-match Tests series, five One day Internationals and a one-off Twenty20 international during their tour of England.
