Question:

Newly engaged and we've hit a snag or two (or a dozen) with wedding planning?

I have so many questions but I'll start with the one I think should be settled first.

We have a guest list 65 so far counting us. We have a budget of 20,000 with us, my parents, his dad and grand dad contributing. With that I think we can have a pretty good wedding.

We want a fun wedding without the stuffiness of a major formal one. So we started thinking about a casual wedding. But then I started looking at dresses and all the dresses I love seem like they'd be too fancy for a casual wedding. I like ball gowns and aline style floor length dresses. My fiance doesnt want to wear a tux.

What to do?

  1. Well, if your fiance doesnt want to wear a tux, then i dont think you should wear a wedding dress. He should still look fancy though, so you should go with the ball room dress.

  2. A wedding isn't a wedding without the bridal dress now is it?

In other words..  No matter how fancy you think they are, others may think differently..  Who cares anyway.. Its your wedding, so wear what you want whether it be casual or not..

  3. find that balance in between casual and formal!

  4. First off congrats!

Well since I have no life I shall help you...

    YEY!

First off... Since its not so formal I would go with a A line dress or empire or mermaid.. depending on your body shape. Empire and mermaid are more for the slim skinny chicks.

here are some ideas for you... Yes granted its the designer label but you can get ideas and go to a different place and find one that has ideas from them[if that makes any sense]

since its not formal you can go with just a sweep train or no train would be better for the occasion.

There is some ideas and most are in your price range I think...

Just find something you love and go back and try it on again in about 2-3 weeks to make sure its the one you want.

Since in the moments you can get swept up and just say you want this dress and then wehn you go in to get it fitted you might be like "why did i Choose this dress"

Just have fun with it and Good luck.

  5. I would say have a beach wedding? if you live by the beach. Just compromise and do something that both make you happy. I wouldn't want to wear a penguin suit either.

Make him wear a nice shirt and tie?

  6. Definitely get the dress that you love no matter how formal it is!!  Let him wear a suit if he doesn't want to wear a tux.  As long as you both feel great in what you are wearing, that is all that matters.  But, don't give up your dream of having a great dress, you will regret it.

  7. You can ALWAYS justify an extravagant dress!

People expect granduer (sp?) when it comes to the dress.

Even when they are at the beach!!!

I don't care about the venue/atmosphere, I wanna see an awesome dress!!!!!!!!

  8. Think hard about what you both want and then do that (or some reasonable compromise if you're on totally different pages). It's your wedding, it's (hopefully) the only one you'll have, and you should be able to enjoy it. Who cares if you're in a pretty dress and he's barefoot? Big deal!

Maybe you could wear the pretty dress (with him in a nice suit) for the ceremony and photos, but switch to something more casual (and comfortable) for the reception. Do what works for you, don't let expectations push you into a wedding you don't want, and don't let the stress of planning and running the wedding crush your enjoyment of what's supposed to be a celebration.

  9. Get the dress you want and move on. This is also your wedding and you want to it be fun and memorable. Would you have fun in a dress you have to settle for? Whats wrong with having a causal fun wedding with a great dress?

  10. If your hubby doesn't want to wear a tux, he could wear a nice dark suit. Just as fancy, and it still looks formal.

    Good luck to you. :)

  11. We're having a casual wedding too. I'm going with a simple but pretty wedding dress and my fiance will wear a suit.

Type in "informal wedding dress" in a search engine such as google and it'll bring up a lot of different sites. Also, think outside the box when it comes to finding a dress. Look at prom dresses, or simple white dresses, or anything else that comes to mind.

    Good luck!

  12. If the dress you love is a "you" kind of dress, everyone will know exactly why you're wearing it. Who cares if your groom is just wearing an everyday suit instead of a tux, and who cares if the wedding isn't black-tie and you're the only one wearing a gown fit for Cinderella. It's your day hunny and everyone will know that the only thing that matters is how you feel. Good luck!!

  13. Just because you don't want to get married in a  church with all the traditional trimmings doesn't mean you shouldn't look fabulous in a dress that you love: Type  casual / beach wedding dresses into your favourite search engine, you will be pleasantly surprised with what you get. They range from short and floaty to  more formal. )

  14. just wear a prom dress that would be cute and have him were black pants with a flanal shirt that would be very nice.

for you this would be cute ;;;;;;but anyways good luck if you need any thing childofgod2472006@yahoo.com

  15. Your wedding can still be casual no matter what dress you pick out.  This is your day.  My wedding was casual, but my dress was nice.  Lacy.  Really me.  Your groom can just wear a nice suit.  Your bridesmaids can be casual, but you, you can go all out if you want to, casual or formal, get the dress you feel good in!  This is your day.  Best wishes!
