It is not a second head or an extra leg. It looks like a vainy bag with like bodily flesh inside.

  1. You need to take the poor thing to a vet, that is not normal. It could be any number of things but I know it is not supposed to be there. It is cruel to the duckling to let it live like that. Please take it to the vet.

  2. Seems to be inside out... Best pop it in the pot...

  3. ewww.. um sweetheart you need to take that to a vet or some thing because i looks like it got two heads

and 4 arms and i don't think its supposed to be like that so either its gonna die or it will just have two heads

  4. Looks like some kind of issue with it's navel, google omphalitis and 'mushy chick'.  I don't think it's going to end well, sorry :(

  5. Oh dear.poor thing...it could possibly have been a twin that just hasn't formed properly ( as in a double-yolked egg?) Take it to the vets as soon as possible. I have to say though......it still looks really cute.

  6. Hello . . .

a few of the answers already are no offense way wrong and some even completely stupid. . .

and FYI. .  the duckling is NOT deformed or any mutation or prolapse

I have seen this happen before . .

Now, what I am 100% sure has happpend that the duckling did not hatch out by itself . .  like you thought

(like it normally would do )

but I have a feeling the mother broke the egg

(you did say she squashed a duckling so she could indeed bust an egg)

anyway . .  the duckling in that pic has simply entered this worl far too early  hence the yolk sack . .

the orangey sack with veins is the ducklings food supply for when it is in the egg. . and a duckling will NEVER hatch unless it has been fully absorbed by the duckling. . . if they come out the shelll any bit too arly chnaces of survival are slim to none . . . the shell keeps out bacteria and keeps the temp and humididty  regulated...

sorry to say it is quite unlikely that this  duckling will survive =(

ducks hatch when they have absorbed al their yolk sack and are fully formed . . .

your duckling is indeed fully formed but even when the duckling is fully developed .   it will still have it's yolk sack until it has been COMPLETLEY absorbed up

(ie around the 27/28 th day)

but don't give up hope, keep him warm. .

miracles can and have happened =)

and he won't need any food until the yolk sack has been asorbed but that's doubtful . .

i honestly don't think he will be able to pull througjh=( sorry:S

  7. Hi there, sorry to say, he looks like he has a prolapse and is very unlikely to survive, I would take it to the vets,he will tell you honestly what it's chances are, we have kept ducks and chickens for a very long time and I'm afraid we would have dispatched this one, it's mum will start pecking it's back end and so will any other ducklings who hatch, nature knows when things aren't as they should be, it's called survival of the fittest. Sorry.

  8. It looks like it got an infection from poor sanitary conditions. Infection gets into them while in the egg so even eggs need certain conditions.
