'News Of The World' sting not reliable – Salman Butt
Salman Butt, Pakistan's former Test captain during the recent controversial Test series against England, has lashed back at the English Tabloid stating that it is not the most reliable source of information. He went on to say that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed, who is the
alleged bookie in the video that was leaked by the NOTW, might have exaggerated his claims when it came to the players in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 camp. Mazhar Majeed had served as the official agent of Salman Butt who handled his promotions and marketing. Majeed also
helped Butt sign sponsorship contracts.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard raided
the players' quarters and searched through their personal belongings for any proofs. The mobile phones of the players were also confiscated.
The appeals of Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt will be heard on the 30th and 31st of October in Doha. In a latest interview, Butt said, "(Majeed) must have made lots of claims ... clearly exaggerating things to show his authority. I think
he might have said a lot of things in that video because it was edited. So nobody knows what has gone wrong in that video".
He, however, went on to defend his association with Majeed who he said served as his agent and that he had been in the field for a long time since Butt isn't the only player that Majeed had offered his services to as far as endorsements and deals were concerned.
Salman maintained that these people are responsible for dealing with the marketing aspect of the players and help them get deals with different companies. This is in fact how agents make money and is done in almost all major sports. He said that therefore,
the eye of suspicion on his association with Majeed is unjustified.
Moreover, Salman Butt also hinted at his return to the game, saying that he was practicing hard and hoped that he would soon get a chance to play for the national side. But, if he is in fact charged with the spot fixing controversy, Butt may face a life
ban, which will see his International career coming to a rather abrupt end.
