News Update: Liverpool
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes he would have sufficient funds to bring in new players come this winter’s transfer window. The manager also believes that bringing in players he wants would finally put his own mark on the squad. The former Fulham boss
currently has a squad inherited by him when he joined the club this summer and believes that the right set of new players can turn things around for Liverpool this season.
"It is starting to feel more like my side. But it is still a team that I have not put together. I want to make that clear. I took the team over and I have not made that many changes. I brought in [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 to replace
[Javier] Mascherano and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114. The other players I have inherited,” claimed Roy Hodgson.
To the disappointment of many, Hodgson has not managed to pull Liverpool out of the crisis since the departure of Rafael Benitez to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 finished 7th in the
league last season and Hodgson was brought in to at least make the side finish in the top four. However, that seems highly unlikely, especially owing to the competition given by sides like Tottenham and Manchester City along with Sunderland this season.
Regarding transfers, Roy felt the need to draw his comparison with the Tottenham Boss Harry Redknapp, where the Spurs manager brought in some key players and led Tottenham to a fourth place finish.
“I think I would be a good comparison with Tottenham because Harry [Redknapp] came in there just as I came into Fulham so he will just be completing three years and he has brought in a lot of players. So to really call it my team, I would have had to make
a slightly bigger impact on those who have been brought in. I am more than happy to take responsibility for this squad but it takes a coach more than five or six months to make his stamp on a club. I am hoping we will do some good business in the transfer
windows to come and then I will be able say, 'If you don't like it then I have no one to blame but myself," claimed the Liverpool coach.
Hodgson took a side like Fulham to their first ever Europa league final and lost narrowly to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the final.
