Newbury to commence live horse racing subject to written confirmation
Newbury is making plans to recover from the tragic events that caused the rescheduling of the race that was supposed to be held on Saturday but was abandoned. It plans to shift the meeting to the coming Friday instead.
The drastic change of plans took place because of the sad demise of two race horses. The deceased horses lost their lives in the parade ring, just when they were about to be mounted by their jockeys. Since the tragic death of Fenix Two and Marching Song,
all sorts of rumors have engulfed the horse racing world concerning the cause of their deaths as the authorities have not been able to figure the reason out yet.
The horses were participating in the jumps fixture that featured the Totesport Trophy. Fenix Two and Marching Song just fell to the ground in the paddock where they were kept as the horses were approached by the jockeys. According to the nature of the injuries
endured by the victims, the most popular speculated theory is that the horses must have undergone electric shock. The event which has rocked the horse racing industry put a temporary halt to the race event just after one race.
Newbury has now decided to turn a new page and commence live horse racing at the tracks. This decision has been reached after the authorities at the Berkshire venue gave an affirmative that the track is good to go for the event.
Stephen Higgins, who is the joint-managing director of Newbury, made the following statement regarding the issue: “It has been a difficult week so far for all involved with Saturday's traumatic events. Having received confirmation from Southern Electric
Power Distribution that the paddock site is safe for both horses and people, we are confident that racing should resume."
Higgins also added that Newbury has had discussion with both the British Horseracing Authority and the Newbury’s sponsors, the Tote and AON regarding the commencement of live horse racing at the tracks, all of whom are in agreement to start the event on
18 February.
However, Newbury is required to provide the BHA with a written confirmation that all necessary steps have been taken before the meet can take place.
