Newsdad settled score with Simmard in the Grade 2 Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park
Newsdad took revenge from Simmard as he triumphed in the Grade II Pan American Stakes (turf) which took place at Gulfstream Park on 24th March, 2012, with the purse of $150,000.
Simmard, son of Dixieland, out of mare Dibs, defeated the four-year-old colt in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes by a near negligible distance of a nose at Gulfstream Park on 26th February, 2012. This race gave the colt an opportunity
to settle the score, and this time he emerged successful.
Trained by William Mott for James S. Karp, the young runner demonstrated his full potential in the final turn, as he sped past, Harrods Creek, with Jose Lezcano as his jockey, who set the early pace of the race.

He finished 2 lengths ahead of, Hailstone, in 2 minutes and 24.93 seconds, as Simmard fell a neck behind Hailstone, resulting in a third place finish. Harrods Creek finished in last. Cause of Freedom and Center Divider were scratched from the race,
therefore never competed.
Harrods Creek continued to make way through the three-quarters in 1 minute and 13.37 seconds, but Newsdad took the advantage of the turn and swiftly breezed past him.
The son of Arch, out of Storm Tracer, led clearly to victory, comfortably crossing the wire first, unthreatened by the other competitors. Newsdad was mounted by Julien Leparoux and guided the runner towards victory. He stated to the press that:
"It’s definitely tougher to ride in these types of races with short fields, especially from the rail with the (7-10) favorite,” he further discussed the technique by adding “You pretty much have two options. You can either go and try to clear on the
lead or take back. (Mott’s) other horse (Harrod’s Creek) seemed to have more speed so I just took back and tried to get in the clear. I was able to make a little bit of a move pretty early on to get in the clear and from there it was perfect. He made a run
around the far turn and finished good.”
Newsdad’s performance showed his stellar form and he will only improve as he gains experience.
