  1. Millions of dollars were raised by German-Americans in the U.S. to support the German cause in the war.

The Royal Navy used a submarine to sever the undersea cable between Germany and Norway, and cut the news link with Berlin.  This meant news of the war was coming out of London, Paris, Rome and Moscow -- which had a major impact on the reporting in U.S. newspapers prior to American entry into the war.

Hope this answer helps you in your research, Rachel.

  2. Luckily news took a long time to get from Europe to the public. If the current media was around back then we would not have entered WWI and had the public known all the facts our entry into WWII may have been delayed longer. Roosevelt wanted a reason to enter the war and ignored warnings as did the military.
