Someone answered this, but he made no sense to me.

To help determine the roots of x = tan(x), y = x, and y = tan(x), and look at the intersection points of the two curves

Find the smallest nonzero positive root of x = tan(x) with an accuracy of (error tollerance ε) ε=0.0001

The desired root is > than pi/2

  1. From a TI-84, the root is 4.4934094579

    Or you can just graph menu, set Y1 = tanx; Y2= x. Then find the Using the "trace" button, trace to their intersection. Same answer.
