Newton North boys volleyball team takes down Brockton 3 - 0: Volleyball news
Tuesday turned out to be a good day for the Newton North boys volleyball team as they were able to hand out a defeat to Brockton in a match that lasted for a short period of three sets. The Black and Orange won the quarter-final of the Division 1 South Sectional
tournament and made their place in the next round of matches.
The Brockton Boxers did not do themselves proud as the first two sets were handed over to the Black and Orange as Brockton scored minimally in each. It was only in the third set that the Boxers were able to pull themselves together. However, the effort came
in too late to force the match to a fourth set.
The final set scores based on which the Black and Orange has been able to secure themselves a seat into the semi finals stood at the following figures: 25-8, 25-8 and 25-20.
The smothering win that Newton North was able to achieve recently has sent out a reminder to the rest of the competing squads in the tournament to stay wary of the Black and Orange. Not only that, Newton North also has a commendable overall season record
that they will be taking forward with them. The statistics of the boy’s team show their total wins to be 15 with only two losses this season
After the referee blew the final whistle, Richard Barton, the head coach of Newton North commented, “It is very pleasing when our team comes out and plays entirely sharp according to our game plan. Doesn’t happen very often in sports at any level. They passed
everything. They hit everything in. They blocked everything. They got everything in defense. They served in. It is sort of like that perfect wave.”
Newton North took the lead early on in the first game at 10-2. Once they had the lead, the Black and Orange kept on extending their advantage in an excellent display of team synchronization. Consequently, Newton North won the first set of the match at 25-8.
Interestingly, the second set of the match took on the same note and ended with a 25-8 score as well.
The third set saw Brockton fight and the team brought it to Newton North. However, by this time the Black and Orange were unstoppable. Newton North took the third set of the match at 25-20.
Next in line for the Black and Orange is the semi-final match that is scheduled to be played against North Quincy. The semi-finalists stand at the number three position in the rankings and supports an overall season record that falls just short of Newton
North. North Qunicy has been able to bag a total of 13 wins at the expense of three losses.
