Next Chelsea captain; Frank Lampard or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837?
Even though Andre Villas-Boas guaranteed John Terry’s position as Chelsea captain in his first press conference as Chelsea manager, there is still some doubt as to whether or not the England international will retain the captain’s armband for the entire
season.
Terry, the 30-year-old centre-back has been a very successful captain at Chelsea, leading the Blues to ten trophies since being appointed captain. Those ten trophies include three English Premier League titles and three FA Cup trophies.
The England international made his debut for the Chelsea senior squad in the 1998-1999 season, which was to be the beginning of his 14 year, and counting, career at Stamford Bridge. He was handed the captaincy in the 2003-2004 by Claudio Ranieri, replacing

Even after the departure of Claudio Ranieri, Terry retained his captaincy. In fact, it was under Mourinho and in just his second and third year as captain that he led Chelsea to back-to-back English Premier League titles.
Over the years, with the various managers that have arrived and left the London club, Terry’s position at the club was never under question. However, things seem to be different with the arrival of the 33-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager.
Just because he has not made any changes in the first week or so does not mean that he will not do so at all in the future. It is understood that Villas-Boas has been brought in by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to deliver results and eventually, trophies.
He will be willing to do almost anything to ensure Chelsea are in top form, even if that involves removing John Terry as the captain. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has maintained his consistency more or less over the past seasons but he is 30 years old and according
to some, not fit enough to remain captain.
In his press conference, Villas-Boas mentioned some senior players from the Chelsea squad who were possible options to be considered as the Blues skipper. Amongst them were midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 and goal-keeper Petr Cech.
Appointing Frank Lampard as captain would create division in the team and quite frankly, would not make too much sense. The attacking midfielder in 33-years-old and was not in the best of forms last season.
Lampard went on to make 32 appearances in all competitions and scored just 13 goals and provided 6 assists. While these statistics would be appear to be impressive for any other midfielder, they just go to show how poor a season Lampard had.
The former West Ham United man has been averaging 20 goals per season for the past five seasons, excluding last season of course. He had established himself as the backbone of Chelsea’s midfield but last season more than changed that.
Keeping last season in mind, Lampard would not be the best player to replace Terry as the Chelsea skipper. This brings us to the Petr Cech, the 29-year-old first-choice keeper, who joined the Blues in 2004.

Recently retired Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, depending on Terry’s performance
in the upcoming season.
