Next Prizefighter line up announced
The next instalment of Prizefighter has been announced, this time it is at super-featherweight and due to take part on November 20th at York Hall.
On paper this line-up has to be one of the strongest yet featuring the likes of Scott Lawton, Derry Matthews, Gary Buckland and headliner Gary “Five Star” Sykes.
Sykes is a fantastic addition because he is undefeated and the current British champion with one successful defence against another Prizefighter contender Kevin O’Hara. Sykes must be looking at this as an opportunity to get a European title shot and make himself wider known in a bigger domain.
Sykes told the Prizefighter website: “I want to fight the best to prove that I am the best. The Prizefighter format is a brilliant night with a big financial reward and as the best fighter in Britain I am confident I can enter this and walk away with the trophy, and I will prove it on November 20th.
“There's two targets on my back - my belt and my unbeaten record, but I've defended it already so there isn't really a lot to risk, and I'm not thinking about losing, I'm thinking about showing that I'm the number one Super Featherweight in Britain.”
Stevie Bell, Gary McArthur and the exciting Mongolian native Choi Tseveenpurev and make up the rest of the field of a fiercely competitive tournament.
Barry Hearn’s brother and Matchroom sport managing director Eddie Hearn said of the line up: “This is quite simply a stunning line up and the most competitive we have ever seen in Prizefighter.
“It’s going to be an electric night and the winner will catapult himself right in line for a major title shot.”
The likes of Audley Harrison and Willie Casey are examples of winners who have gone on to get European shots and Sykes who must be heavy favourite will have that in mind as he gets ready to showcase his skills.
However he will also be aware that a favourite rarely wins Prizefighter and it can prove to be a very unstable tournament.
