Next pre-season test session important for us: Timo Glock
According to Virgin Racing Team’s Timo Glock, the next pre-season test session which is expected to begin on 10 February, 2011 in Jerez is going to be crucial for the team because of the fact that they will test their new car for the first time on track.
The team recently launched their new car, MVR-02 in London and as expected, they are not using Kinetic Energy Recovery System in it.
KERS is a device which converts heat energy into kinetic energy before storing it for later use. After a certain amount of energy has been stored, the driver can use that to give his car a short speed boost.
Nevertheless, Glock believes that the team needs to get the best out of their new car and to do that, a lot of testing is required.
“At the first test I just want to hit the track and drive, drive, drive. We need to see where the bad points are on the car to sort this out before the first race. If you come to the first race with a list of problems, you are in trouble and you start on
the back foot. That's what we shouldn't do,” Glock said.
Glock is confident about the upcoming 2011 season as he thinks that they have moved on and are ready to challenge the established teams in the sport.
“At first it was quite a hard time, but we thought about all the mistakes we made, started to restructure in the middle of the year, tried to get the car more reliable, quicker,” Timo added.
The team became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 along with Lotus Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team but unfortunately, the three new teams were unable to secure a single point throughout the season.
It is going to be interesting to see how the team performs in the 2011 season as it is going to face a tough battle from the other two new teams.
