Next season’s opening night to see Steve Nash and Ray Allen facing off against their old teams – NBA Update
NBA has been known for throwing up some of those interesting matchups on opening nights and last season was no different. In one of the most anticipated matchups, last season opened up on Christmas night with the Miami Heat taking
on the defending champions Dallas Mavericks.
Miami ruled supreme that night and started a journey which was capped with glory. They will now again open the season and their foes will be their fiercest Eastern Conference rivals, the Boston Celtics – the team which they knocked
out in seven games to claim the East.
The game gains even more importance, because Ray Allen, one cog of the Celtics big three decided to head to the South Beach despite having an equivalent offer form the Greens in the off season. The switch was one of the most surprising
ones this summer and will go a long way in enhancing the already bitter relations between the two Eastern Conference giants. The season opener would give them a chance to continue their rivalry.
Ray Allen versus the Boston Celtics, will however not be the only spectacle on the opening night, October 30th.
The night will see a total of three matches and will put some key players against their old teams.
One of the interesting matchups of opening night will see Steve Nash take on his old team, the Dallas Mavericks – a team he said goodbye to back in 2004. Since leaving Dallas, Nash returned to the Phoenix Suns, however an 8 year
stint without an NBA Championship to show for has led the Canadian to join hands with Kobe Bryant in the Los Angeles Lakers.
It would be a highly anticipated game as the Lakers hope to return back strongly next season. They have encountered disappointments in the past two seasons and would like to put the past behind them and return back to top form
– a fact Pau Gasol agrees with.
"We all know this season is a very important one. We'd like to get back on top as a team," -Pau Gasol
In what is technically is the first matchup of next season as it tips off an hour before the Miami versus Boston game begins, the Washington Wizards will pay a visit to Cleveland Cavaliers with both sides looking to display their
young talents.
