Question:

Next summer, when it's hot - will all the global warming deniers agree it's real?

Short term weather in one place can overpower global warming - for a short time. But long term we're going nowhere but up, until we take serious action.

This graph shows it nicely. Even some whole years are unusually warm (1998), some unusually cold (1999). But the long term trend is undeniable, unless you reject science and data.

Of course some do reject science and data in favor of weird conspiracy theories. Like people who say we didn't go to the Moon. Denying global warming is the same thing. You have to assume thousands of scientists and most all world leaders are involved in a strange conspiracy. Ridiculous.

  1. This summer will probably be one of the coolest summers in some time, if this winter is any indicator.

Temperatures are trending downward.  We can refer to the data from NASA:

  2. No it's supposed to be hot in summer [stealin a cue from the AGW cargo cultists regardin low winter temps]

  3. You are ignoring some facts:

1000-1500 years ago this planet was much warmer than it is now. In northern Great Britain grapes were grown and wine was produced, now it is much too cold in that region to grow grapes.

All the factors for the global warming you spoke about are not yet fully understood. Do some more investigation and you will find that there is enough research to support Global Cooling over the past 1500 years and NOT GLOBAL WARMING.

Our planet is a billion years old and has seen many climate changes, we do not yet fully understand it. We may be headed for another Ice Age for all we know.

  4. Even if you prove that G.W. is " real ", you have a greater problem a little further down the road. You need to prove that man has a great enough impact on the planet to cause G.W., or if he has enough impact to stop it.

I think you can feel safe in taking a long ocean voyage today, because most of us have gotten over the fear of falling off the edge of the earth.

  5. no, it's always hot in the summer (unless you live in the southern hemisphere)

  6. Susan - is that you Nancy?  How many identities do you have on here? ;-)

P.S. - have you looked into the thriving wine industry in Britain recently?  Clearly, you are mistaken about this issue. It's important to look for independent verification of claims, no matter who's making them.

  7. Yes, Bob, well at least the “one post” simpletons and followers, you know the ones that say stuff like, "It's snowing in Silicon Valley! global warming is fake."  I think they come in at the same percentage rate as the ones that come in and say, “It’s 60 degrees in Illinois in the middle of winter, that proves global warming is happening"  you know the ones we see every day that come in once, call people names or type in capital letters to prove they are right, and then expect real answers.  Yeah skeptics are loaded with the same percentage of that type of person as the alarmists are. I am sure if you and Dana did a count you would see that we have just about the same number of folks that come in and say that It's real or not real based pretty much on what a lot of their friends, science teachers, co-workers, politicians, TV shows, and Internet tell them.  So once again, Yeah you will get some folks this summer that switch sides of the fence and becomes a believer or skeptic because of a localized weather event.  And you will still get people asking the same simple questions like “Why wont they believe?” or “Why do they believe?” (sometimes in caps) 20 to 30 times a day with out looking through the old posts.

Oh my you finally brought up the “conspiracy theory” in a question. So where do I start?  You are talking to the same crowd that usually does not believe in conspiracy theories. Let’s face it the good theories like “The Luna landing was faked” and “Kennedy was shot by multiple people” are already taken by the left side of the fence. Usually they are the ones that are a little radical on the left side. The ones on the side of the fence, that don’t believe global warming is man made, are quite a different crowd. They are usually a little conservative and closer to the middle of the road. Do we believe scientists? Yes. However this whole thing is being blown out of proportion by the press, politicians, and bureaucrats. Do any of them lie to us? Only when their lips are moving! The press loves this because bad news sells, the politicians have a great political forum and the bureaucrats need their jobs. Do they lie, not necessarily; they just propagate off each other. It is pretty common. Now too many people have jumped on this bandwagon.  People get all emotional about the issue which propagates it further.  We have proof in society that this happens, Just look at the McCarthy and his which hunts, Americans became crazy with the anti-communist propaganda. Or how about how George Bush worked up the American public after 9/11, every one was so ready to accept the Patriot Act that they never considered the consequences. He was able to ride that wave of Patriotism from Afghanistan right into Iraq.  That, my friend, is what is going on here.

  8. Agree what's real? That Anthropogenic Global warming is real?

People aren't as gullible as you are Bob, they know that it gets warmer in the summer time. I conclude as Dr Jello concluded that this summer is going to be cooler than last summer was. Due to the cold weather we are experiencing in the Northern Hemisphere.

You see Bob common sense and watching the weather patterns is a much better predictor of what's going to happen during the rest of the year. It still can be a bit sketchy like the guessing the scientists are doing, but I will stick to one to two year predictions at the most. Not the 50 to 100 years the scientists are trying to tell us is real. Due to their theory.

  9. No I will not becasue one summer means nothing. If it were like 1998 hot for like 15 summers in a row that would mean somthing but one summer means nothing. It is summer it is supposed to be hot.

  10. News Flash... It's HOT in the summer!!!

    ha ha

  11. No, they won't.  They'll just keep repeating the same amateurish and wrong 'global warming has stalled' argument.  Then when we have a year warmer than 1998, they'll say 'oh it was just one year'.  Then when we have another, they'll say 'oh it was just 2 years'.  Then when we have several more they'll say 'well the warming is still obviously natural'.

Denial is the essence of deniers, after all.  But their numbers are shrinking to the point of irrelevance.

  12. no, but Global Warming radicals will scream their head off

  13. Im with susan on this,  Put away your crystal ball, Bob.

the global average is getting messed up alll because of a small variation in the north atlantic current.  Here is what is happening:

The soot we add to the air is darkening the snow that falls everywhere.  The snow melts faster( like it is at the north pole) which causes a run away warming effect in the north because the melting sea ice is diluting the sea water, keeping it from sinking and becoming part of the deep water current.

Since the water is diluted and doesnt sink, it travels farther north than it did before, carrying the heat with it, which melts more sea ice(AND HEATS THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE).  With less sea ice, less light is reflected back into space, which also causes some warming.

Eventually, the bottom will drop out, and there wont be enough sea ice melting each year to dilute the ocean current as much as it is currently, and then the north pole will get colder again, which will actually make the whole northern hemisphere colder again, which will make the global average drop.  Bye bye global warming.

  14. temperature is just one of the many indicators of global warming. However, depending on where you are, the temp could be cooler or wamer than usual.

  15. Bob I looked at your bias link, and the word ( Prediction ) is used quite a bit, so yes I think they are going to Predict that it will be hot this summer. Maybe this Global Warming is just a PREDICTION too.
